Ukrainian Institute in Germany

DISCOVER UKRAINE: BITS DESTROYED

Mission:

The aim of the Ukrainian Institute in Germany was to artistically honor the endangered Ukrainian monumental art and to raise awareness for its preservation.

Idea & implementation:

The James-Simon-Galerie on Museum Island was an ideal projection surface. This was used to bring the valuable Ukrainian cultural assets to life.

In close collaboration with photographer Yevhen Nikiforov and his documentary project Ukrainian Soviet Mosaic (2013-2021), a mesmerizing video installation about the world of Ukrainian mosaic art was created. The projection, which highlighted the importance of preserving these works, was produced by the creative team Tais Poda, Rock ‘n’ Light Studio and Ptakh. The animated images became a powerful symbol of resilience in the James Simon Gallery.
