New Year’s Eve at the Brandenburg Gate by ZDF

ZDF Creates Virtual Fireworks for Live New Year’s Eve Show 2020 at the Brandenburg Gate

Idea: New Year’s Eve fireworks at the Brandenburg Gate – unique, resource-friendly, communicative.

The renowned New Year’s Eve show at the Brandenburg Gate could not unfold in front of a live audience as usual, given the challenges of the pandemic year. Despite this, the ZDF live show in front of the Brandenburg Gate brought a diverse, atmospheric program to people across the country. Light art installations on the facade of the Berlin landmark enhanced the program with an expressive light show, and at midnight, a spectacular virtual fireworks display welcomed the new year.

Implementation: Innovative New Year’s Eve Experience with Resource-Friendly Colour Fireworks

As in every year, a multifaceted stage was set up in front of the Brandenburg Gate, where moderators Andrea Kiewel and Johannes B. Kerner communicated via stream with guests and viewers, hosting a multi-hour show with prominent musical live acts. The FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS team skillfully adorned the gate’s facade with stunning images, 3D video mappings, and immense virtual displays of color, creating a mesmerizing masterpiece that seamlessly enhanced the ongoing light show. A special highlight was the spectacular fireworks illuminations, providing a uniquely memorable accompaniment to the New Year’s Eve celebration.

Success: Media Spectacle with Enormous Coverage

The remarkable projections by the FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS team on the Brandenburg Gate during the New Year’s Eve show garnered widespread attention from the media, generating an exceptionally large response. The ZDF’s media presence was enhanced through the combination of a spectacular New Year’s Eve show and a groundbreaking, sustainable implementation.
