10 Ministries Illuminate for Freedom
Idea: United in the Sign of Freedom
In a unique joint action, ten federal ministries and other federal institutions aimed to unite as a “Band of the Federal Government” and bring the high importance of freedom into the public consciousness. The FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS 2019 had the challenging task of translating the idea of freedom into impressive light projections and 3D video mappings.
Implementation: Projections tell stories
The spirit of freedom illuminated many ministry and agency facades in the government district, telling stories. The focus was on the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, a victory for freedom that made German reunification and the growth of Europe possible.
Ten federal ministries, along with the Federal Press Office and the European House at Pariser Platz, illuminated the theme of freedom from their different perspectives. Discoveries included light projections on the peaceful revolution, the fall of the wall, and the unity of Europe, as well as on the freedom rights of the Basic Law, which celebrated its 70th anniversary in 2019.
To make the “Band of the Federal Government” tangible for festival visitors, a bus tour connected the various locations.
Success: Increased appreciation for freedom
Freedom is not taken for granted. Each individual is called upon to highly value the importance of freedom and stand up for it. The joint action and its extensive media presence in the FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS Multimedia Channel conveyed this important message broadly to the media and the public.
